It has been a crazy, terrifying week. The news has (rightly) been saturated with the developments from Trump’s firing of Comey and the constitutional crisis it has created. But as important as the Trump-Russia story is, we must also focus our attention on how Trump’s agenda affects people’s daily lives. As Jeet Heer, the editor of The New Republic, persuasively argues, the Trump-Russia story is barreling along on its own accord. What we need to do is to highlight other issues, like healthcare and net neutrality (https://twitter.com/HeerJeet/status/865722508187586560).
So… let’s talk healthcare. Trump is threatening to sabotage the health care system by not reimbursing insurers for offering lower-cost insurance to the poor (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/19/opinion/donald-trump-threatens-to-sabotage-obamacare.html?_r=0 ). This can be done without a congressional vote, and sources close to the administration have said this is a power play to try to bring Democrats to the table. This is, naturally, despicable. Trump is toying with the healthcare of millions for political points. But our members of Congress can prevent this sabotage from happening. They can pass legislation that protects the healthcare subsidies that Trump is planning to cut.
Call Bob Latta and Rob Portman, and tell them to pass legislation that will protect the health care subsidies. Make it clear that the blame will be on them and their party if people lose health care.
Please only call Bob Latta if you live in Ohio District 5.
