Daily Action for Wednesday, May 24th

Even as more and more corruption and criminality are revealed in Trump’s White House, we need to remember that the Trump administration is trying to take away our Internet. We are entering into the second public comment period for the FEC’s attempt to roll back net neutrality. Net neutrality protects customers by forcing internet providers to treat every piece of data equally. This prevents companies like Comcast or AT&T from slowing down or speeding up access to, for instance, Netflix. With the net neutrality rules rolled back, companies could either charge you extra or charge Netflix (therefore forcing Netflix to raise its subscription prices) to be able to stream video at full speed without interruption. Net neutrality, therefore, is an essential customer protection. And the Congress itself is complicit in this: today House Republicans were handed talking points drafted by industry lobbyists. And Bob Latta is especially complicit in this: he has a shameful record regarding net neutrality. He has even introduced legislation to overturn net neutrality in the past, despite the fact that net neutrality would hurt his largely rural constituents who cannot change providers if they start charging more for access to their favorite services. It seems Bob is listening more to his corporate donors than the voters he represents.

Call Rob Portman and Bob Latta and tell them to support net neutrality. Tell them to stop listening to the lobbyists, and listen to their constituents instead.

Also go to http://www.gofccyourself.com (a redirect site made by John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight) and leave a public comment. Click on the “Express link” to the right of the completely misleading “Restoring Internet Freedom” title of the legislation to leave a comment. You will have to give your name and address, and they will be made fully public and searchable.

Please only call Bob Latta if you live in Ohio District 5.

Please only call Rob Portman if you in Ohio.
