Federal:
Let’s talk about frogs. Yes, really, frogs. Pretend that the frog represents “health care.” Everybody loves the frog, but the Republicans want to get rid of the frog. Instead of killing the frog outright they slowly raise the temperature of the water until it’s too late and the frog is boiling. The frog still dies, but just more gradually.
This (morbid) opening has a point. The medical director for the National Council for Behavioral Health has made exactly this frog comparison about Rob Portman’s support for phasing out the Medicaid expansion: “This is simply a question of how fast to boil a frog. The end is the same for the frog.” Rob Portman promised to protect those covered by Medicaid (see e.g. this press release). But it is sounding more and more like he is backing down on that promise, and supporting rolling back the Medicaid expansion of Obamacare. Portman no longer will fight to save the Medicaid expansion that provides care for so many Ohioans, but will just end it more slowly. Just like the frog, the end will remain the same for the 700,000 Ohioans who receive Medicaid: they will still lose their insurance, just further down the road.
Call Rob Portman and demand that he lives up to his promise to protect the Medicaid expansion. Tell him that killing the Medicaid expansion slowly is killing it nonetheless.
Please only call Rob Portman if you live in Ohio.

State:
The Republicans in the Statehouse are at it again. Despite being rebuked three times, Republicans have introduced the fetal heartbeat bill again. This bill would effectively prevent abortions after six weeks of pregnancy (before most women even realize they are pregnant). It’s time to put the kibosh to this regressive bill.
Call your state representative and senator and tell them how important women’s health is to Ohioans. Urge them to vote against any unconstitutional attack on a woman’s right to choose.
Please only call the representatives of your community.
Ohio districts are heavily gerrymandered, so it is recommended you use the official Ohio House of Representatives and Ohio Senate sites to look up your local representatives. In some cases, you may have to enter the 9 digit zip code to pinpoint your exact location
