Daily Action for Monday, August 14: Remember Charlottesville

Monday, August 14th:

This has been a traumatic weekend. The horrible act of terror in Charlottesville and Trump’s unwillingness to condemn literal murder by white supremacists and Nazis should serve as a wake-up call. We need to use our voices to protect the people most endangered by Trump’s agenda: African-Americans, immigrants, Muslims, and other people of color. Even though the Republicans in Congress have condemned the most overt displays of Nazism from the alt-right (even when Trump has not), many are still pushing the same anti-immigrant policies that Trump’s Nazi friends support. Trump and some Senate Republicans, for instance, are trying to cut legal immigration in half with the RAISE act. And the Trump administration is currently trying to dismantle DACA, a program that protects immigrants who were brought to America as young children. The good news is that there is bipartisan legislation to save DACA, the Durbin-Graham “DREAM Act” (S. 1615) in the Senate and American Hope Act (H.R. 3591) in the House. We need to call Rob Portman and Bob Latta, and tell them to vote against the RAISE act that would limit legal immigration, and vote for legislation that will protect current DACA recipients. Let’s show Trump’s Nazi followers that love does indeed trump hate.

Call Bob Latta and urge him to vote against the RAISE act and protect legal immigration. Urge him to become a co-sponsor and vote for the American Hope Act (H.R. 3591) to protect DACA.

Call Rob Portman and urge him to vote against the RAISE act and protect legal immigration. Urge him to become a co-sponsor and vote for the Durbin-Graham “DREAM Act” (S.1615) to protect DACA.
