Donald Trump did the unthinkable today. He publically sided with literal Nazis who had just murdered someone. In an unhinged press conference, he defended the white supremacists at Charlottesville. He claimed that many people who had gathered at the white supremacist event were “very fine” and that they were unfairly treated by the media. Trump just gave a huge boost to the Nazis, white supremacists, and KKK in the United States. These hate groups know they have a friend in the President.
To their credit, our representatives have firmly denounced white supremacy in no uncertain terms (see Rob Portman’s tweets here, and here; see Bob Latta’s tweets here, here, and here). But all of these statements are missing someone: direct reference to the leader of the Republican party, Donald Trump. This cannot stand. Our representatives must unequivocally denounce Donald Trump, and condemn him for taking the side of literal Nazis. Congress needs to officially censure Trump for his role in defending the white supremacists in Charlottesville.
Call Rob Portman and Bob Latta. Urge them to support an official censure of the Congress for Donald Trump’s inexcusable defense of white supremacists in Charlottesville. Tell them their statements condemning white supremacy mean very little unless they condemn the man using the White House to spread white supremacy.
